The autumn period was warm and settled which provided consistent conditions for a speedy veraison as we moved through to harvest.
The quality of fruit was very high with intense flavours developing very early in March, which signaled that harvest could be slightly earlier than experienced in previous years. The warm weather continued all through March and into April, which allowed us to comfortably harvest the Merlot and Syrah blocks at optimal flavour development with no botrytis pressure.
We didn’t experience any differences in ripening between the organic and conventional blocks, with quality being very high across both growing regimes, which was very pleasing to see. We are extremely pleased with the quality of fruit received from our Mere Road vineyard and the quality of the vintage from Hawkes Bay, which will be a vintage remembered for some time!
